November 2008 News

November 1st

Planning continued for the setup for the MMRC to attend the Djerriwarrh Festival this year. Planned to take MMRC's layout "The Yard", Tony's "Red River Railroad" and Andrew's Hobbies also.

Saturday's meetings will now start at 1pm, with the clubrooms open from 12 Noon.

Work also continued on The Yard, with ballasting, turf and dirt from Bridge Rd (Melton South!) laid on the middle module of the layout.

Work on the On30 layout also continued, with an impressive mountain range being carved out of foam. Things are really "shaping up" for the On30-ers!

November 7th, 8th and 9th - Djerriwarrh Festival 2008

Members of the MMRC came along on Friday night (7th) to help setup the MMRC's display at the Djerriwarrh Festival in the Mechanic's Institute, Meeting Room #1. The Yard was packed up and brought down to the Hall, with Tony also packing up his layout and bringing it along also.

A big thank you to everyone who attended the setup night!

With The Yard setup and ready to go, a quick running session started. Fortunately we did, as a short developed. Thanks to Eugene and Trevor for diagnosing the fault in time! With The Yard up and running again and members helping Tony assemble his layout, it was also asked if Rick and Lynda could bring along their N scale hybrid layout along also.

Members were up bright and early Saturday morning, with Tony finishing off setting up his layout, with the help of a couple of early starters. With preparations now complete, we were ready to go!

The street parade went through, along High Steet. After the parade finished we certainly had our share of interested people coming through to have a look at the MMRC's display!

A great day in all, albeit very tiring!

Sunday ended up being a "pack up day".

Thanks again to everyone that helped out and the Shire of Melton. we had a great day!

Had a handful of members turn up today, with work carried out by Andrew and Sue to attach steel reinforcing/aligning plates to The Yard. This work will help members align the Yard's track and make assembily even easier! It'll also make disassembily safter for when Adam tries to take it apart single handedly! The plates were then painted.

Work also was undertaken on the missing middle backscene, which Andrew donated to the club. Andrew got to work, painting the backboard up sky blue, with a bit of a small surprise for the members on Wednesday night!
