about the mmrc

July 26 2010

The Melton Model Railway Club Incorporated was formed in early 2008.

The MMRC has three layouts under construction at the present time, the HO Scale 'The Yard' layout which is nearing completion, an On30 layout which is at early stages of development and a new N scale layout which is really taking shape quickly.

The club is also now begining to build a number of Free-Mo Modules. For more information on Free-Mo, please follow THIS LINK

All scales are well catered for at the club from G scale to Z scale, even now down to the microscopic T gauge and everything in between!

Membership Fees are currently under review with the outcome to be posted here shortly..

History - MMRC

The Melton Model Railway Inc was formed in 2008. Initial meetings were held at Ruby's Pizza and Pasta Restraunt while the club looked to securing its first clubrooms. The Shire of Melton was able to provide the club with the former Coburns Tennis Club pavilion, the club's initial clubrooms, in Blackwood Drive, Melton South.

Once the club moved into the new clubrooms, membership started growing even more rapidly. The club purchased the 'Frisco Union Belt Lines' HO Scale layout as the club's first layout. The layout has since undergone a facelift, including adding a 3rd, centre module, renaming the layout to 'The Yard', buildings being rearranged, new track laid and scenery work completed.

Next the club members began work on the club's On30 layout, which wa started from scratch. Baseboards and legs were kindly donated by Andrew's Hobbies and work began on land forming with foam and MDF risers.

Around the same time, work began on the club's N Scale layout, which the baseboards and legs were also donated by Andrew's Hobbies. Work has moved rapidly on the layout, with huge mountains and a switchback arrangement really taking shape.

Looking towards the future, the club has completed a move to new clubrooms! This move allows the club to grow and expand and also allow many more members to attend, allow for more members to join and enable all of the club's layouts to be fully setup all the time. We thank the West Melton Tennis Club for inviting the Melton Model Railway Club Inc to share an area of the WMTC's clubrooms with us along with the Shire of Melton for assisting with a smooth transition to the new clubrooms.

For details on where the clubrooms are, and when the clubrooms are open, please see THIS LINK
